Prototype #2

Today was a long day. One of the things about being a designer and pre-press guy is ALL the revisions that get tossed at you. So after a whole day of changes, it was kinda relaxing to letter the second issue of Prototype. Yeah, sounds crazy, but hey.

Tomorrow I get to finish the redesign of the Farscape Script Book... a couple times. Yes. Twice. You'll understand if you pick up the Farscape comics and collection. I'll say no more because I really should get some sleep to be prepared for what I expect to be another long, long, long, long day.

Potter's Field HC

Finished laying out the guts for Waid's Potter's Field hardcover collection. I'm curious to see how the front and back cover look as they're being done in-house by Boom! Studios so I can focus on the Farscape Hardcover immediately.

Busy week this week with Farscape Vol. 1 HC, Prototype #2, Hero Squared #3, and Unthinkable #1. Hmm, 3 days left in the week and four books to finish. Is that a challenge or what?! Sleep is overrated ain't it?

Fist of Justice #1 Free Comic Book Day Edition

Phew. I feel like a heavy load has been lifted off my back. The Free Comic Book Day edition of Fist of Justice #1 has been delivered to the printer yesterday. Not only was it a struggle to create and insert new content, the financial part was giving me ulcers. Originally was going to go with my regular printer, and based on how many copies were sold, it would have put me in the hole about 3 grand.

Luckily I found another printer who would print it at a couple cents lower than what I was selling it for to the distributor. In a sense, that puts it into a profitable category -- but only if I didn't have to overprint by a couple thousand. But, hey, I figure it should be easy to unload a freebie comic which I can look at as a business expense. With a little luck, it'll give the series more exposure and help grow the audience.

Farscape Script Book

It's Farscape week here at the Dukeshire house. Just finished laying out the script book which I designed as a magazine style book. Waiting for word for final approval so it can be exported and uploaded to the printer -- then I can enjoy the start of my weekend.

Next up; Prototype, Fist Of Justice, a couple hard covers, and finally the last issue of Hero Squared. It's gonna be a busy end of the month. And I STILL have to do my taxes!! Arg!

Farscape #4

Finished lettering/pre-pressing Farscape #4. Just waiting on Henson to give it their thumbs-up so it can be uploaded to the printer. From here, I get to immediately jump onto the hardcover collection, and yes, there's still the scriptbook. It's Farscape week.

And while I'm doing all that, I still need to prep Fist of Justice FCBD, Potter's Field HC, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting about. Luckily I use that "To Do" feature in MacMail. heh.

X-Files #6

Just finished lettering the last issue of this mini-series. Can't wait for more. I dug the X-Files TV series and movie (haven't seen the second one yet) so I liking the comic book, especially since it's written by creators I only dreamed of working with such as this issue by Doug Moench. The previous story arc by Marv Wolfman, and the first story arc by TV series writer Frank Spotnitz.

Great stuff.

GeNext: United #1

Just turned in the first issue of the new GeNext series. One thing I want to bring up which is pretty cool -- it's illustrated by Jonboy Meyers, and it looks sweet, but that's not what I wanted to mention. Jonboy used to be an editor over at MV Creations back in the day and he gave me my first professional lettering gig on a book titled Masters of the Universe. From there I became the regular letterer for the series, then picked up more work from other publishers because of the exposure in that series.

So in a sense, he started my lettering career. And for that I want to say "Thanks, Jonboy!" Now I'm off to finish X-Files, Hero Squared, Prototype, Farscape, and pre-press some books. And the crazy thing, it's not even the end of the month (which is usually when all this crazyness happens).

Farscape: Strange Detractors #1

I just finished lettering the second Farscape mini-series while waiting on the last issue of the other mini-series (which should be dropped on my lap any day). Can't wait for the Dargo series because that cat was just cool.

Next up on my project list is probably a Marvel title, still waiting for that to arrive. And I got a feeling the last half of the next issue of X-Files is just around the corner somewhere waiting to be seen. Oh yeah, then there's the FCBD edition of Fist of Justice which heads off to the printer in a couple weeks.
